Concerning Bakuman Season 2

Although we started out here at Mezawari working on the first season of Bakuman, at this time we have no plans to sub season 2. Musou_Mitai and have I discussed it, and we agreed that it is too huge an investment of time — the half of season 1 we did last time was pretty all-consuming for a two man group, and we don’t believe we could juggle it with our manga projects and still provide quality releases in a timely manner.

At the moment, what we’re most concerned about is bringing you high-quality releases of Silver Spoon and Gunota Girl. Both of these are projects that no one else will be working on if we stop them, and they’re very important to us. Unless the quality of the subs of Bakuman season 2 are really bad (as in Guess Subs tier), it’s very unlikely that we’ll risk detracting from the quality of our main projects to compete with other subbing groups on an anime.

Those of you who’ve asked about it, we’re delighted to hear that you liked us well enough to want us back, and we’re sorry to disappoint you. However, we hope you’ll continue to enjoy our Silver Spoon and Gunota Girl releases as well as any future project we decide to undertake!

New Lessons Every Week

Today we are learning how to talk about tractor transmissions in Japanese.  Thank you, Silver Spoon.

Silver Spoon Chapter 5

Here’s your (not so) weekly dose of Silver Spoon!  This chapter was…  An interesting experience for Musou_Mitai to translate.  But hey, learn something (or many somethings, in this case) every day, right?

Everything Silver Spoon

It appears Silver Spoon will be taking a break next week as well, so we’ll see you again in two weeks.  Maybe Arakawa-sensei isn’t having so much fun drawing a weekly series instead of monthly…?

Reminder: Golden Week

Just a reminder, it’s Golden Week in Japan, so there will be no chapter of Silver Spoon released this week.  See you all next week!

Mangawari Presents: Silver Spoon Chapter 1

Hello again, everybody!  This is the first chapter of Arakawa Hiromu’s new manga, Silver Spoon (Gin no Saji).  We’re all suffering from Full Metal Alchemist withdrawal, so we’ll take anything with vaguely similar character designs!

We pretty much decided to do this on a random whim when it came out on the same day we finished up the batch torrent for Bakuman.  It looks alright because we were working with a decent raw, but I know about as much about cleaning as Paul Ryan knows about the U.S. budget, so I suppose we’ll dub it “medium quality.”

Also, I’ve been sicker than a dog’s breakfast, Musou_Mitai did pretty much all the work this time around.  Credit where credit is due!

Bakuman 18v3 Patch for 18v2 from Batch Torrent

This patch is for fixing the giant fuckup Musou_Mitai made with the batch torrent — apparently he muxed episode 18 with the wrong .ass file.  To clarify, you only need this if you have the version of episode 18 from the batch torrent released a couple days ago.

If you need help applying an xdelta patch, you can read a somewhat abrasive guide here, or if you like easymodes, you can just use an xdelta GUI like this one.

The Future of [Mezawari]

With Bakuman’s first season done, we’re going to take a break for a season for a number of reasons.  The main one is that Musou_Mitai would really like to get his capture card working correctly with Japanese TV, so that we can work with a .ts and he can see the closed captions.  When we start up again, we’ll also likely be recruiting a timer & an encoder to take some of the workload off of the two of us.

Then again, if we see a series we like get dropped mid-season…  Well, to paraphrase one of modern gaming’s great heroes: “Wake us…  When you need us.”
